Healthy Neighbourhoods

How important is housing in terms of a social network, especially for disadvantaged groups such as migrants, older people, single parents or people with disabilities?

Healthy Neighbourhoods

An Initiative of the Fonds Gesundes Österreich

About the research

Through the project „Auf gesunde Nachbarschaft“ (Towards a Healthy Neighbourhood), the Fonds Gesundes Österreich (FGÖ) aims to draw the public’s attention to the correlation between health and a supportive neighbourhood. The project aimed to point out how significant the living environment is, in particular for socially disadvantaged residents, such as migrants, aged citizens, single parents or people with disabilities. Until spring 2014, the FGÖ sponsored about 40 small projects in the urban region Linz-Auwiesen and the rural region Waldviertel, which focused on local social solidarity in order to support the well-being of the population.

The ifz conducted the scientific supervision and evaluation of the project. Like in the case of the social festival „Keep the Ball Rolling.“, the applied methods included comparative network analyses, workshops and semi-standardized surveys at the beginning and the end of the project.
