Birgit Bahtić-Kunrath studied Political Science in Salzburg and Rennes and completed a master’s degree in Human Rights and Democratisation in Venice and Lund. After a traineeship at the Council of Europe field office in Sarajevo, she was a university assistant at the Political Science Department at the University of Salzburg (pre-doc). She finished her dissertation at the University of Salzburg and the University of Sarajevo. Birgit Bahtic-Kunrath was then a project assistant and lecturer at the University of Salzburg, served as the Secretary-General of the Austrian Political Science Association and worked as a research assistant at the Robert Jungk International Futures Library.

Birgit Bahtic-Kunrath has been a research assistant at the ifz since April 2021, where she oversees the Horizon 2020 project “Crises as Opportunities: towards a Level Telling Field on Migration and a New Narrative of Successful Integration”.

Her research interests include the areas of social human rights, democracy and political participation, integration and environmental issues.
