The Emergence of Occupational Science in Austria: An Insider Perspective wirtten by Prodinger and Stamm

Science: Occupational Science and Philosophy

Occupational Science is an emerging discipline in Austria and concerned with human occupations; that is anything that individuals do in their daily lives individually or within their families or communities and that brings meaning and purpose to life.

Birgit ProdingerIn the summer 2010, the ifz has started to engage into the dialogue between occupational science and philosophy. While much has been discussed and written about this discipline in the English-speaking context, discussions about the disciplinary identity of occupational science in the German-speaking countries has only started recently.

Birgit Prodinger and Tanja Stamm illustrate the historical developments of occupational science in Austria and point to some current trends of occupational science in Austria by drawing on a current Tanja Stammresearch project on occupational balance in people with chronic immunological diseases.
