Symposium „The Human Agent – Capabilities and Justice“
Paper presented by Clare Hocking

Development of Capabilities needs Opportunities – an Occupational Just Society

Clare Hocking stated that all capabilities available to one person support his/her well-being. However, people will only be able to develop those capabilities, for whose development they had the possibility. Furthermore she discussed how the environment is a determinant, where capabilities are elicited, honed and made apparent.

Also, Hocking talked about the term Occupational Justice, which relates to fairness, empowerment, rights and responsibilities and involves the dignity of all human beings. Therefore, an occupational just society would respect differences in capabilities and enable people to participate in, to them, meaningful occupations.
